English Translation
Isma'il told us, Ayyub informed us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir: that a man from the Ansar called Abu Madhkur freed a slave of his called Ya'qub by a will effective after his death, and he had no property other than him. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, called for him and said: "Who will buy him? Who will buy him?" So Nu'aym ibn Abdullah al-Nahham bought him for eight hundred dirhams and handed the money to him, and he [the Prophet] said: "If one of you is poor, let him begin with himself; and if there is a surplus, then for his dependents; and if there is a surplus, then for his relatives" — or he said, "for those of his kinship" — "and if there is still a surplus, then here and there."
