حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا هَمَّامُ بْنُ يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو غَالِبٍ الْخَيَّاطُ قَالَ شَهِدْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ صَلَّى عَلَى جِنَازَةِ رَجُلٍ فَقَامَ عِنْدَ رَأْسِهِ فَلَمَّا رُفِعَ أُتِيَ بِجِنَازَةِ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ أَوْ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ يَا أَبَا حَمْزَةَ هَذِهِ جِنَازَةُ فُلَانَةَ ابْنَةِ فُلَانٍ فَصَلِّ عَلَيْهَا فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهَا فَقَامَ وَسَطَهَا وَفِينَا الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الْعَدَوِيُّ فَلَمَّا رَأَى اخْتِلَافَ قِيَامِهِ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ وَالْمَرْأَةِ قَالَ يَا أَبَا حَمْزَةَ هَكَذَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُومُ مِنْ الرَّجُلِ حَيْثُ قُمْتَ وَمِنْ الْمَرْأَةِ حَيْثُ قُمْتَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْنَا الْعَلَاءُ فَقَالَ احْفَظُوا.
English Translation
Yazid informed us: Hammam ibn Yahya informed us: Abu Ghalib al-Khayyat told us, he said: I witnessed Anas ibn Malik pray over the funeral bier of a man, standing at his head. When it was carried away, the funeral bier of a woman of Quraysh, or of the Ansar, was brought, and it was said to him, "O Abu Hamzah, this is the bier of so-and-so, daughter of so-and-so; pray over her." So he prayed over her, standing at her middle. Among us was al-'Ala' ibn Ziyad al-'Adawi, and when he saw the difference in where he stood for the man and for the woman, he said, "O Abu Hamzah, is this how the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to stand — for the man where you stood, and for the woman where you stood?" He said, "Yes." Al-'Ala' turned to us and said, "Remember this."
