حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ وَلَا أَدْرِي أَشَيْءٌ أُنْزِلَ أَوْ كَانَ يَقُولُهُ لَوْ أَنَّ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيَيْنِ مِنْ مَالٍ لَتَمَنَّى أَوْ لَابْتَغَى وَادِيًا ثَالِثًا وَلَا يَمْلَأُ جَوْفَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ وَيَتُوبُ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ فَلَا أَدْرِي أَشَيْءٌ أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ فَذَكَرَهُ.
English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: Shu'bah told us, who said: I heard Qatadah narrating from Anas ibn Malik, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say — and I do not know whether it was something revealed or something he used to say — "If the son of Adam had two valleys of wealth, he would wish for" — or, "seek" — "a third valley, and nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam but dust, and Allah relents toward whoever repents." Hajjaj told us: Shu'bah told me: I heard Qatadah say: I heard Anas say: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say — I do not know if it was something revealed to him — and he mentioned it.
