حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْرَائِيلَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ الْمُلَائِيُّ عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وُجِدَ قَتِيلٌ بَيْنَ قَرْيَتَيْنِ أَوْ مَيِّتٌ فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذُرِعَ مَا بَيْنَ الْقَرْيَتَيْنِ إِلَى أَيِّهِمَا كَانَ أَقْرَبَ فَوُجِدَ أَقْرَبَ إِلَى أَحَدِهِمَا بِشِبْرٍ قَالَ فَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى شِبْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَجَعَلَهُ عَلَى الَّذِي كَانَ أَقْرَبَ.
English Translation
Aswad ibn Amir told us, Abu Isra'il Isma'il al-Mula'i told us, from Atiyya, from Abu Sa'id, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A slain man, or a dead man, was found between two villages. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered, and the distance between the two villages was measured to see which of them it was closer to. It was found to be closer to one of them by a hand-span." He said: "It is as if I can see now the hand-span of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when he made it fall upon the one that was closer."
