English Translation
Abu al-Yaman told us, Shu'ayb informed us, Abdullah ibn Abi Husayn told me, Shahr told me, that Abu Sa'id al-Khudri told him, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "While a bedouin was in some part of the outskirts of Madina with sheep of his, a wolf attacked him and seized a sheep from his flock. The bedouin caught up with it and rescued it from him, and shouted at it. But the wolf resisted him, walking on, then sat back resting on its tail, addressing him. It said: 'You have taken a provision that Allah provided for me.' He said: 'How amazing - a wolf sitting back, resting on its tail, addressing me!' It said: 'By Allah, you are leaving something more amazing than that.' He said: 'And what is more amazing than that?'" So it said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, [is] between the two lava-fields, at the two palm groves, telling the people news of what has passed and what will come after." He said: "So the bedouin drove his sheep, hooting them along, until he brought them to safety in part of Madina. Then he walked to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, until he knocked on his door. When the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had finished praying, he said: 'Where is the bedouin, the owner of the sheep?' So the bedouin stood up, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: 'Tell the people what you heard and what you saw.' So the bedouin told the people what he had seen of the wolf and heard from it. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said at that: 'He has spoken the truth - these are signs that occur before the Hour. By the One in whose hand is my soul, the Hour will not come until a man goes out from his household and his sandal, or his whip, or his staff informs him of what his family did after he left.'"
