English Translation
Yazid told us, Dawud informed us, from Abu Nadrah, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: Abu Musa sought permission to enter upon Umar three times, but Umar did not give him permission, so he went back. Umar then met him and said: "What is the matter with you, that you went back?" He said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'Whoever seeks permission three times and is not given permission, let him go back.'" He said: "You must bring evidence for this, or I will do such-and-such." So he went to a gathering of his people and adjured them by Allah, Mighty and Sublime — I said: "I am with you" — and they testified for him accordingly, so he let them go their way.
