Bilal ibn al-Harith narrated: We went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on one of his journeys. He went to relieve himself, and whenever he went to relieve himself, he would go far. I brought him a water vessel, and he went away. I heard near him the disputing of men and a clamor the likes of which I had never heard. When he came, he said: "Bilal." I said: "Bilal." He said: "Do you have water?" I said: "Yes." He said: "Good." He took it from me and performed ablution. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I heard near you men disputing and a clamor sharper than any voices I have heard." He said: "The Muslim jinn and the polytheist jinn disputed before me, asking me to settle them in homes. So I settled the Muslim jinn in the highlands and the polytheist jinn in the lowlands." 'Abdullah ibn Kathir asked Kathir: "What are the highlands and the lowlands?" He said: "The highlands are the villages and mountains, and the lowlands are between the mountains and the seas." Kathir said: "We never saw anyone struck in the highlands except that he recovered, and no one struck in the lowlands except that he barely recovered."
