It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a son of his died at (the place of) Qudayd or Usfan, so he said (to his slave): O Kurayb! See how many people are gathered (for the funeral prayer). Kurayb said: I went and saw that people were gathered, so I informed him. Then Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: In your estimation are they forty? I said: Yes. He said: Bring out the funeral, because I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: For any Muslim over whose funeral there are forty men who have not associated anything with Allah, Allah certainly accepts their intercession on his behalf. الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہان کا ایک فرزند (مقام) قدید یا عسفان میں فوت ہو گیا تو انہوں نے (اپنے غلام سے) کہا کہ اے کریب! دیکھو کتنے لوگ (نماز جنازہ کے لئے) جمع ہیں؟ کریب نے کہا کہ میں گیا اور دیکھا کہ لوگ جمع ہیں تو انہیں خبر کی تو سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا کہ تمہارے اندازے میں چالیس ہیں؟ میں نے کہا کہ ہاں۔ کہا کہ جنازہ نکالو، اس لئے کہ میں نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے سنا ہے کہ جس مسلمان کے جنازے میں چالیس آدمی ایسے ہوں، جنہوں نے اللہ کے ساتھ کسی چیز کو شریک نہ کیا ہو تو اللہ تعالیٰ اس کے حق میں ان کی شفاعت ضرور قبول کرتا ہے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 483]
