The Mother of the Believers Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: When some affliction reaches a servant and he recites this supplication, "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un... wa akhlif li khayran minha," that is, "Indeed we belong to Allah and indeed to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me in this affliction of mine, and grant me thereafter something better (than the thing lost)," Allah gives him the reward of that affliction and grants him something better (than the thing lost). The Mother of the Believers Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When (my first husband) Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) died, I recited (the aforementioned supplication) as the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had commanded me, so (by the blessing of that supplication) Allah granted me a better husband than (my first husband), that is, Muhammad (peace be upon him). الترجمة الأردية
ام المؤمنین ام سلمہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہمیں نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو یہ فرماتے ہوئے سنا کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمفرماتے تھے کہ جب کسی بندے کو تکلیف پہنچے اور وہ یہ دعا پڑھے”اناللہ وانا الیہ راجعون .... واخلف لی خیرا منہا“یعنی یقیناً ہم بھی اللہ تعالیٰ کے لئے ہیں اور یقیناً ہم (بھی) اسی کی طرف لوٹنے والے ہیں۔ اے اللہ مجھے میری اس مصیبت میں اجر دے اور اس کے بعد مجھے (ضائع شدہ چیز سے) بہتر چیز عطا فرما۔ (اس دعا کے پڑھتے رہنے سے) اللہ تعالیٰ اس کو اس مصیبت کا ثواب دیتا ہے اور (ضائع شدہ چیز سے) بہتر چیز بھی عطا فرماتا ہے۔ ام المؤمنین ام سلمہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ جب (میرا پہلا خاوند سیدنا) ابوسلمہ رضی اللہ عنہ فوت ہو گیا تو میں نے (مذکورہ دعا) پڑھی جیسا کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے مجھے حکم دیا تھا، تو (اس دعا کی برکت سے) اللہ تعالیٰ نے مجھے (پہلے خاوند) سے اچھے خاوند (یعنی محمدصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) عطا فرما دیئے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 461]
