It is narrated from Urwa bin Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Mother of the Believers, Aisha the Truthful (may Allah be pleased with her), said: Do you not marvel at Abu Hurayra? He came and sat at one side of my chamber and began to narrate hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). I was listening, but I was praying voluntary prayer, and he left before I finished. Had I found him, I would have refuted him, because the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did not speak quickly and rapidly the way you do. Ibn Shihab said to Ibn Musayyib that indeed Sayyiduna Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) said: People say that Abu Hurayra has narrated many hadiths, and Allah the Exalted is the Reckoner. And they also say: Why do the Emigrants and the Ansar not narrate hadiths like Abu Hurayra? Soon I will tell you the reason for that. My Ansari brothers were occupied with the work of their land, and those who were Emigrants were occupied with the affairs of the marketplace, while I stayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) content with (only) filling my belly. So I was present when they were absent, and I remembered when they forgot. And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said one day: Which of you will spread out his garment and, after hearing my hadith, clasp it to his chest — for then he will not forget what he has heard? I spread out my cloak until he (peace be upon him) finished with the hadith. Then I clasped that cloak to my chest, and from that day I have not forgotten anything that he (peace be upon him) related. And were it not for these two verses that have been revealed in the Glorious Qur'an, I would not have narrated any hadith to anyone: "Those who conceal what We have sent down of clear proofs and guidance — upon them is the curse ..." to the end.

عروہ بن زبیر رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہا کہ تم ابوہریرہ پر تعجب نہیں کرتے؟ وہ آئے اور میرے حجرے کے ایک طرف بیٹھ کر رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے حدیث بیان کرنے لگے میں سن رہی تھی لیکن میں نفل پڑھ رہی تھی اور وہ میرے فارغ ہونے سے پہلے چل دئیے۔ اگر میں ان کو پاتی تو ان کا رد کرتی، کیونکہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماس طرح سے جلدی جلدی باتیں نہیں کرتے تھے جیسے تم کرتے ہو۔ ابن شہاب نے ابن مسیب سے کہا کہ بیشک سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ ابوہریرہ نے بہت حدیثیں بیان کیں اور اللہ تعالیٰ جانچنے والا ہے اور یہ بھی کہتے ہیں کہ مہاجرین اور انصار ابوہریرہ کی طرح حدیثیں کیوں نہیں بیان کرتے؟ عنقریب میں تم سے اس کا سبب بیان کرتا ہوں۔ میرے انصاری بھائی جو تھے وہ اپنی زمین کی خدمت میں مشغول رہتے اور جو مہاجرین تھے، وہ بازار کے معاملوں میں اور میں اپنا پیٹ بھر کر رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ رہتا۔ پس میں حاضر رہتا اور وہ غائب رہتے اور میں یاد رکھتا اور وہ بھول جاتے اور رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ایک دن فرمایا کہ تم میں سے کون اپنا کپڑا بچھاتا ہے اور میری حدیث سن کر پھر اس کو اپنے سینے سے لگائے تو جو بات سنے گا وہ نہ بھولے گا؟ میں نے اپنی چادر بچھا دی یہاں تک کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمحدیث سے فارغ ہوئے۔ پھر میں نے اس چادر کو سینے سے لگا لیا۔ اس دن سے میں کسی بات کو جو کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے بیان کی، نہیں بھولا اور اگر یہ دو آیتیں نہ ہوتیں جو کہ قرآن مجید میں اتری ہیں تو میں کسی سے کوئی حدیث بیان نہ کرتا کہ”جو لوگ چھپاتے ہیں جو ہم نے نشانیاں اتاریں اور ہدایت کی باتیں، تو ان پر لعنت ہے ........“آخر تک۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1709]
