It is narrated from Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utbah that he heard Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) say: Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said, sitting on the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): "Allah, Exalted is His Glory, sent Muhammad (peace be upon him) with the truth and revealed the Book to him. In this Book was also the verse of stoning (but its recitation was abrogated while the ruling remains). We recited this verse, memorized it, and understood it. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) carried out stoning, and we too carried out stoning after him. I fear that when a long time passes, someone may say, 'We do not find stoning in the Book of Allah,' and thereby go astray by abandoning an obligation that Allah has revealed. Indeed, in the Book of Allah, stoning is a right due upon the one who commits adultery while married, whether man or woman, (and this is the case) when witnesses are established for the adultery, or there is pregnancy, or the (adulterer) himself confesses. (Rajm means to bury half in the ground and then finish the person off by pelting with stones from above.)" [Mukhtasar Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1037]
الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ بن عتبہ سے روایت ہے کہانہوں نے سیدنا عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے سنا وہ کہتے تھے کہ سیدنا عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے منبر پر بیٹھ کر فرمایا کہ اللہ جل شانہ نے محمدصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو حق کے ساتھ بھیجا اور ان پر کتاب اتاری، اسی کتاب میں رجم کی آیت بھی تھی (لیکن اس کی تلاوت موقوف ہو گئی اور حکم باقی ہے) ہم نے اس آیت کو پڑھا اور یاد رکھا اور سمجھا۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے بھی رجم کیا اور ہم نے بھی آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے بعد رجم کیا۔ میں ڈرتا ہوں کہ جب زیادہ مدت گزرے گی تو کوئی یہ نہ کہنے لگ کہ ہمیں اللہ تعالیٰ کی کتاب میں رجم نہیں ملتا۔ پھر گمراہ ہو جائے اس فرض کو چھوڑ کر جس کو اللہ تعالیٰ نے اتارا۔ بیشک اللہ تعالیٰ کی کتاب میں اس شخص پر جو شادی شدہ ہو کر زنا کرے مرد ہو یا عورت رجم حق ہے۔ (اور یہ صورت میں ہی ہے کہ) جب گواہ قائم ہوں زنا پر یا حمل ہو یا (زانی) خود اقرار کرے۔ (رجم، آدھا زمین میں گاڑ کر اوپر سے پتھر مار مار کر ختم کر دینے کو کہتے ہیں)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1037]
