Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: People used to ask the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about good, but I used to ask him about evil, fearing that it would reach me. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, we were in Jahiliyyah and evil, then Allah brought us this good. Will there be any evil after this good?" He said: "Yes." I asked: "Will there be any good after that evil?" He said: "Yes, but it will be tainted." I asked: "What is its taint?" He said: "A people who will guide others without my guidance. You will approve of some of their actions and disapprove of others." I asked: "Will there be any evil after that good?" He said: "Yes, callers at the gates of the Fire. Whoever responds to them, they will throw him into it." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, describe them to us." He said: "They are from our people and speak our language." I said: "What do you command me to do if I encounter that?" He said: "Stick to the main body of the Muslims and their leader." I said: "What if there is no main body and no leader?" He said: "Then withdraw from all those groups, even if you have to bite onto the trunk of a tree until death comes to you while you are in that state."
