Abu Muhammad Abdullah ibn Ja'far ibn Darastawayh al-Farisi informed us... from Hadrat Amr ibn Abasah (may Allah be well pleased with him) who said: I came to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) at the very beginning of his mission while he was in Makkah, and at that time he was in hiding. I submitted: "What are you?" He stated: "I am a Prophet." I submitted: "And what is a Prophet?" He stated: "A Messenger of Allah." I submitted: "Did Allah send you?" He stated: "Yes." I submitted: "With what did He send you?" He stated: "That you worship Allah alone, break the idols and false religions, and maintain the ties of kinship." I submitted: "What an excellent mission He has sent you with!" Then I submitted: "Who follows you in this?" He stated: "A slave and a free man" — meaning Hadrat Abu Bakr and Hadrat Bilal (may Allah be well pleased with them both). Amr used to say: 'I saw myself as the fourth of Islam.' He said: So I accepted Islam. I submitted: "Shall I follow you, O Messenger of Allah?" He stated: "No, but go back to your people, and when you are informed that I have emigrated, then follow me." He said: So I returned to my people and kept watching for news of him and his departure, until a caravan came from Yathrib. I met them and asked about the news. They said: 'The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) has departed from Makkah to Madinah.' I submitted: "Has he arrived there?" They said: 'Yes.' He said: So I set out until I came to him. I submitted: "Do you recognize me, O Messenger of Allah?" He stated: "Yes, you are the man who came to me in Makkah." Then I sought out his moments of privacy, and when he was alone, I submitted: "O Messenger of Allah, teach me from what Allah has taught you, and be concise." He stated: "Then ask whatever you wish." I submitted: "Which part of the night is most heard (by Allah)?" He stated: "The last middle portion of the night. So pray as much as you wish, for the prayer is witnessed and recorded until you pray the morning prayer (Fajr). Then refrain until the sun rises and is elevated the length of a spear or two, for it rises between the two horns of a devil and the disbelievers prostrate to it at that time. Then pray as much as you wish, for the prayer is witnessed and recorded until the shadow of a spear equals its length. Then refrain, for Hellfire is stoked and its gates are opened. When the sun passes the meridian, pray as much as you wish, for the prayer is witnessed and recorded. Then pray until you pray the afternoon prayer ('Asr). Then refrain until the sun sets, for it sets between the two horns of a devil and the disbelievers prostrate to it at that time. And when you perform ablution, wash your hands, for when you wash your hands your sins fall from your arms. Then when you wipe over your head, your sins fall from the tips of your hair. Then when you wash your feet, your sins fall from your feet. If you remain seated in your place, you will have a portion of reward from your ablution. And if you stand and remember your Lord, praise Him, and pray two units of prayer with your heart fully attentive, you will be free from your sins as on the day your mother gave birth to you." Abu Umamah said: I submitted: "O Amr, be careful what you say, for you are saying something tremendous!" He replied: "By Allah, I have grown old and my death is near, and I have no need for lying. Had I not heard it from the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) except once or twice, I would not have narrated it, but I heard it more than that." حضرت عمرو بن عبسہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ میں حضور نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں بعثت کے ابتدائی دنوں میں حاضر ہوا جب آپ مکہ مکرمہ میں تھے اور اس وقت آپ پوشیدہ تھے۔ میں نے عرض کیا: "آپ کیا ہیں؟" ارشاد فرمایا: "میں نبی ہوں۔" میں نے عرض کیا: "نبی کیا ہے؟" فرمایا: "اللہ کا رسول۔" میں نے عرض کیا: "کیا اللہ نے آپ کو بھیجا ہے؟" فرمایا: "ہاں۔" میں نے عرض کیا: "آپ کو کس چیز کے ساتھ بھیجا ہے؟" فرمایا: "یہ کہ تم اللہ کی عبادت کرو، بتوں اور باطل ادیان کو توڑو اور صلہ رحمی کرو۔" میں نے عرض کیا: "آپ کو کتنی اچھی بات کے ساتھ بھیجا گیا ہے!" پھر میں نے عرض کیا: "اس میں آپ کی پیروی کون کرتا ہے؟" فرمایا: "ایک غلام اور ایک آزاد" یعنی حضرت ابوبکر صدیق اور حضرت بلال رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما۔ حضرت عمرو فرمایا کرتے تھے: 'میں نے اپنے آپ کو اسلام کا چوتھا فرد پایا۔' فرماتے ہیں: پس میں نے اسلام قبول کیا۔ میں نے عرض کیا: "یا رسول اللہ! کیا میں آپ کے ساتھ رہوں؟" فرمایا: "نہیں، بلکہ اپنی قوم میں واپس جاؤ، جب تمہیں خبر ملے کہ میں نکل چکا ہوں تو میرے پاس آ جانا۔" فرماتے ہیں: پس میں اپنی قوم میں واپس آیا اور آپ کی خبر اور ہجرت کا انتظار کرنے لگا، یہاں تک کہ یثرب سے ایک قافلہ آیا۔ میں نے ان سے ملاقات کی اور خبر پوچھی تو انہوں نے کہا: حضور نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم مکہ سے مدینہ تشریف لے گئے ہیں۔ میں نے عرض کیا: کیا آپ وہاں پہنچ گئے؟ انہوں نے کہا: ہاں۔ فرماتے ہیں: پس میں نے کوچ کیا یہاں تک کہ آپ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا۔ میں نے عرض کیا: "یا رسول اللہ! کیا آپ مجھے پہچانتے ہیں؟" فرمایا: "ہاں، تم وہ شخص ہو جو مکہ میں میرے پاس آیا تھا۔" پھر میں آپ کی خلوت کا انتظار کرنے لگا۔ جب آپ تنہا ہوئے تو میں نے عرض کیا: "یا رسول اللہ! اللہ نے آپ کو جو سکھایا ہے اس میں سے مجھے سکھائیں اور مختصر فرمائیں۔" فرمایا: "جو چاہو پوچھو۔" میں نے عرض کیا: "رات کا کون سا حصہ سب سے زیادہ مقبول ہے؟" فرمایا: "رات کا آخری درمیانی حصہ۔ جتنی چاہو نماز پڑھو کیونکہ نماز حاضر کی جاتی اور لکھی جاتی ہے، یہاں تک کہ تم فجر کی نماز پڑھ لو۔ پھر رک جاؤ یہاں تک کہ سورج طلوع ہو اور ایک یا دو نیزے کی مقدار بلند ہو جائے، کیونکہ وہ شیطان کے دو سینگوں کے درمیان طلوع ہوتا ہے اور کفار اس وقت اسے سجدہ کرتے ہیں۔ پھر جتنی چاہو نماز پڑھو کیونکہ نماز حاضر کی جاتی اور لکھی جاتی ہے، یہاں تک کہ نیزے کا سایہ اس کے برابر ہو جائے۔ پھر رک جاؤ کیونکہ جہنم بھڑکائی جاتی اور اس کے دروازے کھولے جاتے ہیں۔ جب سورج ڈھل جائے تو جتنی چاہو نماز پڑھو کیونکہ نماز حاضر کی جاتی اور لکھی جاتی ہے۔ پھر نماز پڑھو یہاں تک کہ عصر پڑھ لو۔ پھر رک جاؤ یہاں تک کہ سورج غروب ہو جائے کیونکہ وہ شیطان کے دو سینگوں کے درمیان غروب ہوتا ہے اور کفار اس وقت اسے سجدہ کرتے ہیں۔ اور جب تم وضو کرو تو اپنے ہاتھ دھوؤ، کیونکہ جب تم اپنے ہاتھ دھوتے ہو تو تمہاری بازوؤں سے گناہ جھڑ جاتے ہیں۔ پھر جب تم سر پر مسح کرتے ہو تو بالوں کی نوکوں سے گناہ نکل جاتے ہیں۔ پھر جب تم پاؤں دھوتے ہو تو پاؤں سے گناہ نکل جاتے ہیں۔ اگر تم اپنی جگہ بیٹھے رہو تو تمہیں وضو کا حصہ ملے گا۔ اور اگر تم کھڑے ہو کر اپنے رب کو یاد کرو، اس کی حمد کرو اور دل لگا کر دو رکعت نماز پڑھو تو تم گناہوں سے ایسے پاک ہو جاؤ گے جیسے اس دن تھے جب تمہاری ماں نے تمہیں جنم دیا تھا۔" حضرت ابو امامہ نے عرض کیا: "اے عمرو! سوچ لو کیا کہہ رہے ہو کیونکہ تم بہت بڑی بات کہہ رہے ہو!" انہوں نے فرمایا: "اللہ کی قسم! میری عمر ہو چکی اور موت قریب ہے اور مجھے جھوٹ کی ضرورت نہیں۔ اگر میں نے حضور نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے صرف ایک یا دو بار سنا ہوتا تو بیان نہ کرتا مگر میں نے اس سے زیادہ بار سنا ہے۔" امام مسلم نے ان الفاظ میں سے بعض کو نضر بن محمد الجرشی کی حدیث سے تخریج کیا ہے۔
