Hadrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) narrated: Hadrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be well pleased with him) used to invite me along with the Companions of the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and would say to me: 'Do not speak until they speak.' Then he invited them and asked them about the Night of Decree, saying: 'What do you think about the statement of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him): Seek it in the last ten — which night do you consider it to be?' Some said: 'The twenty-first.' Some said: 'The twenty-third.' Another said: 'The twenty-fifth.' And I remained silent. He said: 'Why do you not speak?' I said: 'If you permit me, O Commander of the Faithful, I shall speak.' He said: 'I only sent for you so that you would speak.' I said: 'Shall I tell you my opinion?' He said: 'That is what we ask you.' I said: 'It is the twenty-seventh. I observed that Allah mentioned seven heavens, and seven earths, and He created man from seven, and the vegetation of the earth emerged from seven.' Umar said: 'You have told me what I already know. Tell me what I do not know — what is your saying that the vegetation of the earth is from seven?' I said: 'Indeed, Allah says: We split the earth in cracks [Abasa 26] to His saying: and fruit and herbage [Abasa 31], and al-abb is the vegetation of the earth that animals eat but humans do not.' Hadrat Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: 'Are you all unable to say what this young lad whose skull bones have not yet joined has said? By Allah, I do not see the truth except as you have stated.' Then he said: 'I had commanded you not to speak until they spoke, but now I command you to speak alongside them.' This is an authentic hadith according to the conditions of Muslim, though neither of them narrated it.
الترجمة الأردية
حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے بیان کیا: حضرت عمر بن الخطاب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ مجھے نبئ کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے صحابہ کے ساتھ بلاتے اور مجھ سے فرماتے: جب تک وہ نہ بولیں تم نہ بولو۔ پھر انہوں نے انہیں بلایا اور شبِ قدر کے بارے میں پوچھا: بتاؤ سرکارِ دو عالم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کا ارشاد کہ اسے آخری عشرے میں تلاش کرو — تمہارے نزدیک کون سی رات ہے؟ کسی نے کہا اکیسویں، کسی نے کہا تیئسویں، کسی نے کہا پچیسویں، اور میں خاموش رہا۔ فرمایا: تم کیوں نہیں بولتے؟ میں نے عرض کیا: اگر آپ اجازت دیں اے امیر المومنین تو بولوں۔ فرمایا: میں نے تمہیں اسی لیے بلایا ہے کہ بولو۔ میں نے عرض کیا: میں اپنی رائے بتاؤں؟ فرمایا: ہم تم سے یہی پوچھ رہے ہیں۔ میں نے عرض کیا: ستائیسویں۔ میں نے دیکھا کہ اللہ نے سات آسمان کا ذکر فرمایا، زمینوں کو بھی سات بنایا، انسان کو سات سے پیدا کیا، اور زمین کی روئیدگی سات سے نکلی۔ فرمایا: تم نے مجھے وہ بتایا جو میں جانتا ہوں۔ جو میں نہیں جانتا وہ بتاؤ — زمین کی روئیدگی سات سے کیا مراد ہے؟ میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتا ہے: ہم نے زمین کو خوب پھاڑا [عبس ۲۶] سے لے کر: اور پھل اور چارہ [عبس ۳۱] تک، اور ابّ زمین کی وہ روئیدگی ہے جو جانور کھاتے ہیں مگر انسان نہیں کھاتے۔ حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: کیا تم سب عاجز ہو کہ اس نوجوان لڑکے جیسی بات کہو جس کی کھوپڑی کے جوڑ ابھی ملے نہیں؟ اللہ کی قسم! میں سچ اسی کو سمجھتا ہوں جو تم نے کہا۔ پھر فرمایا: میں نے تمہیں حکم دیا تھا کہ ان کے بولنے تک نہ بولو، مگر اب میں تمہیں حکم دیتا ہوں کہ ان کے ساتھ بولو۔ یہ حدیث مسلم کی شرط پر صحیح ہے مگر دونوں نے اسے روایت نہیں کیا۔
