It is narrated by Hadrat Sahl bin Sa`d that a woman came to Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and said, "O Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! I have come to you to present myself to you (for marriage)." Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) glanced at her. He looked at her carefully and fixed his glance on her and then lowered his head. When the lady saw that he did not say anything, she sat down. A man from his companions got up and said, "O Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! If you are not in need of her, then marry her to me." the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated, "Have you got anything to offer." The man said, 'No, by Allah, O Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)!" the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated (to him), "Go to your family and try to find something." So the man went and returned, saying, "No, by Allah, O Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! I have not found anything." The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated, "Go again and look for something, even if it were an iron ring." He went and returned, saying, "No, by Allah, O Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! I could not find even an iron ring, but this is my Izar (waist sheet).' He had no Rida (upper garment). He added, "I give half of it to her." Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated "What will she do with your Izar? If you wear it, she will have nothing over herself thereof (will be naked); and if she wears it, then you will have nothing over yourself thereof ' So the man sat for a long period and then got up (to leave). When Allah's Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) saw him leaving, he ordered that he e called back. When he came, the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) inquired (him), "How much of the Qur'an do you know (by heart)?" The man replied, I know such Sura and such Sura and such Sura," naming the suras. the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated, "Can you recite it by heart?" He said, 'Yes." the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated, "Go I let you marry her for what you know of the Qur'an (as her Mahr)
الترجمة الأردية
ہم سے قتیبہ بن سعید نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے یعقوب بن عبدالرحمٰن نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابوحازم سلمہ بن دینار نے، ان سے سہل بن سعد رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہ ایک خاتون رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوئیں اور عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! میں آپ کی خدمت میں اپنے آپ کو ہبہ کرنے آئی ہوں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان کی طرف دیکھا اور نظر اٹھا کر دیکھا، پھر نظر نیچی کر لی اور سر کو جھکا لیا۔ جب خاتون نے دیکھا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان کے بارے میں کوئی فیصلہ نہیں فرمایا تو بیٹھ گئیں۔ اس کے بعد آپ کے صحابہ میں سے ایک صاحب کھڑے ہوئے اور عرض کیا کہ یا رسول اللہ! اگر آپ کو ان کی ضرورت نہیں تو ان کا نکاح مجھ سے کرا دیجئیے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے دریافت فرمایا کہ تمہارے پاس کوئی چیز ہے؟ انہوں نے عرض کی کہ نہیں یا رسول اللہ، اللہ کی قسم! نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ اپنے گھر جاؤ اور دیکھو شاید کوئی چیز مل جائے۔ وہ گئے اور واپس آ کر عرض کی کہ نہیں یا رسول اللہ! میں نے کوئی چیز نہیں پائی۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا اور دیکھ لو، اگر ایک لوہے کی انگوٹھی بھی مل جائے۔ وہ گئے اور واپس آ کر عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! مجھے لوہے کی انگوٹھی بھی نہیں ملی، البتہ یہ میرا تہمد ہے۔ سہل رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ ان کے پاس چادر بھی نہیں تھی ( ان صحابی نے کہا کہ ) ان خاتون کو اس تہمد میں سے آدھا عنایت فرما دیجئیے۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ یہ تمہارے تہمد کا کیا کرے گی اگر تم اسے پہنو گے تو اس کے لیے اس میں سے کچھ باقی نہیں رہے گا۔ اس کے بعد وہ صاحب بیٹھ گئے اور دیر تک بیٹھے رہے پھر کھڑے ہوئے تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے انہیں واپس جاتے ہوئے دیکھا اور انہیں بلانے کے لیے فرمایا، انہیں بلایا گیا۔ جب وہ آئے تو آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان سے دریافت فرمایا کہ تمہارے پاس قرآن مجید کتنا ہے۔ انہوں نے عرض کیا فلاں فلاں سورتیں۔ انہوں نے ان سورتوں کو گنایا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا کہ کیا تم ان سورتوں کو زبانی پڑھ لیتے ہو۔ انہوں نے ہاں میں جواب دیا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے پھر فرمایا کہ جاؤ میں نے اس خاتون کو تمہارے نکاح میں اس قرآن کی وجہ سے دیا جو تمہارے پاس ہے۔ ان سورتوں کو اس سے یاد کرا دو۔
