Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:5907 حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الشَّافِعِيُّ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ جِئْتُ أَهَبُ لَكَ نَفْسِي فَقَامَتْ طَوِيلًا لَا يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَصَعَّدَ فِيهَا النَّظَرَ وَصَوَّبَهُ فَلَمَّا طَالَ مُقَامُهَا تَنَحَّتْ وَجَلَسَتْ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَكَ بِهَا حَاجَةٌ فَزَوِّجْنِيهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «هَلْ عِنْدَكَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ تُصْدِقُهَا إِيَّاهُ؟» قَالَ لَا وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «اذْهَبْ فَانْظُرْ» فَذَهَبَ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَقَالَ لَا وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا قَالَ «اذْهَبْ فَالْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ» فَذَهَبَ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَقَالَ لَا وَاللهِ مَا وَجَدْتُ وَلَا خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ قَالَ وَعَلَيْهِ إِزَارٌ مَا عَلَيْهِ رِدَاءٌ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِزَارِي قَالَ إِنَّ إِزَارَكَ إِنْ لَبِسْتَهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَيْهَا مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ وَإِنْ لَبِسَتْهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَيْكَ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ فَتَنَحَّى الرَّجُلُ ثُمَّ قَامَ فَرَآهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مُوَلِّيًا فَأَمَرَ بِهِ فَدُعِيَ فَقَالَ «مَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ؟» قَالَ سُورَةُ كَذَا وَسُورَةُ كَذَا لِسُوَرٍ عَدَّدَهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «اذْهَبْ فَقَدْ مَلَّكْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ»
الترجمة الإنجليزية
Sahl ibn Sa'd narrated that a woman came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have come to offer myself to you." She stood for a long time — the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not look at her, then he looked up and down at her. When her standing became prolonged, she moved aside and sat down. A man from the gathering stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah, if you have no need of her, then marry her to me." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Do you have anything to give her as a dowry?" He said: "No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Go and look." He went and came back and said: "No, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah, I found nothing." He said: "Go and search, even for an iron ring." He went and came back and said: "No, by Allah, not even an iron ring." He was wearing only a lower garment with no upper garment. He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I offer my lower garment." He said: "If she wears it, you will have nothing, and if you wear it, she will have nothing." The man moved aside, then got up. The Prophet (peace be upon him) saw him leaving and had him called back. He said: "What do you know of the Quran?" He said: "Such and such surahs" — naming several surahs. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Go, for I have given her to you in marriage for what you know of the Quran."
