حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ قَالَ أنا الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ سِقْلَابٍ قَالَ نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ ثَوْرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الدِّيلِيِّ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ وَجَدْتُ أَبَا جَهْلٍ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ فِي قَتْلَى بَدْرٍ وَبِهِ رَمَقٌ فَحَزَزْتُ رَأْسَهُ فَجِئْتُ بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ هَذَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَأْسُ أَبِي جَهْلٍ فَقَالَ هَذَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَأْسُ أَبِي جَهْلِ قَالَ وَكَانَتْ يَمِينُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَوَضَعْتُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ مُتَّصِلًا قَتْلَى بَدْرٍ وَبِهِ رَمَقٌ فَحَزَزْتُ رَأْسَهُ فَجِئْتُ بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ هَذَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَأْسُ أَبِي جَهْلٍ فَقَالَ هَذَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَأْسُ أَبِي جَهْلِ قَالَ وَكَانَتْ يَمِينُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَوَضَعْتُهُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لَا نَعْلَمُهُ يُرْوَى عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ مُتَّصِلًا

Bishr ibn Khalid al-Askari narrated to us, he said: Al-Mughirah ibn Siqlab informed us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us, from Thawr ibn Zayd al-Dili, from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas, from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, who said: I found Abu Jahl — may Allah curse him — among the slain of Badr while there was still a last breath of life in him. So I severed his head and brought it to the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and said: This — by Him besides Whom there is no deity — is the head of Abu Jahl. He said: This — by Him besides Whom there is no deity — is the head of Abu Jahl. He said: And that was the oath of the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). I said: Yes. So I placed it before him, and he praised Allah. This hadith — we do not know it to be narrated from Ibn Abbas from Ibn Mas'ud except from this route with a connected chain.
