Abu Muhammad Abdullah ibn Yusuf al-Asbahani informed us... from Abu Humayd al-Sa'idi that the Prophet (peace be upon him) appointed a man from al-Azd over the charity, called Ibn al-Lutbiyyah. When he returned, he said to the Prophet (peace be upon him): 'This is for you, and this was given to me as a gift.' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood on the pulpit, praised Allah, and said: 'What is the matter with the worker whom we appoint over some of our work, who comes and says: This is for you and this was gifted to me? Why did he not sit in his father's or mother's house to see if he would receive gifts or not? By the One in Whose hand is Muhammad's soul, none of you takes anything from it except that he will come with it on the Day of Resurrection carrying it on his neck - if it is a camel, it will be bellowing; if a cow, it will be lowing; if a sheep, it will be bleating.' Then he raised his hands until we could see the whiteness of his armpits and said: 'O Allah, have I conveyed? O Allah, have I conveyed? O Allah, have I conveyed?'
