Muhammad ibn Abdullah al-Hafiz narrated to us... from Anas ibn Malik who said: The people of Madinah were struck by drought during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). While he was delivering a sermon on Friday, a man stood and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the horses have perished and the sheep have perished! Supplicate to Allah to give us rain.' The Messenger of Allah extended his hands and supplicated. Anas said: The sky was like glass - then wind blew, then clouds formed, then gathered, then the sky released its downpours. We went out wading through water until we reached our homes. It continued to rain until the following Friday. That man - or someone else - stood and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the houses have collapsed! Supplicate to Allah to hold it back.' The Messenger of Allah smiled and said: 'O Allah, around us and not upon us.' The clouds split around Madinah like a crown, raining around it but not in Madinah. I looked at Madinah as if it were within a crown.
