Abu Nasr ibn Qatadah informed us, Ali informed us, Abu Shu'ayb informed us, Ali narrated to us. And Abu al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Ma'ruf al-Isfara'ini informed us there, Bishr ibn Ahmad informed us, Ahmad ibn al-Husayn ibn Nasr al-Hadhdha' narrated to us, Ali ibn Abdullah narrated to us, Uthman ibn Umar narrated to us, Layth ibn Sa'd narrated to us, Sulayman ibn Abd al-Rahman narrated to us from al-Qasim, the freedman of Khalid ibn Yazid ibn Mu'awiyah, from Ubayd ibn Fayruz who said: I asked al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him), I said: Tell me what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked regarding sacrificial animals. He said: "Four" - and my hand is shorter than the hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) - he said: "Four are not permissible: the one-eyed whose defect is obvious, the sick whose illness is obvious, the lame whose lameness is obvious, and the emaciated that has no marrow." Ali said: So the hadith is the hadith of Layth. Ali said: Uthman said: I said to Layth ibn Sa'd: "O Abu al-Harith, Shu'bah narrates this hadith from Sulayman ibn Abd al-Rahman, that he heard Ubayd ibn Fayruz?" He said: "No, Sulayman only narrated it to us from al-Qasim, the freedman of Khalid, from Ubayd ibn Fayruz." Uthman ibn Umar said: Then I met Shu'bah and said: "Layth narrated this hadith to us from Sulayman ibn Abd al-Rahman from al-Qasim from Ubayd ibn Fayruz, and he put 'the emaciated that has no marrow' in place of 'the broken one that has no marrow.'" He said: Shu'bah said: "This is how I memorized it, as I narrated it." Like that.
