Yazid ibn Abdullah ibn Qusayt reported: A man was given news of the birth of a girl, and a man said: 'Give her to me.' This was mentioned to Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib who said: 'A woman given as a gift is not lawful for anyone after the Prophet (peace be upon him). Even if he were to give her the dowry of a whip or more, it would be valid.' And he said elsewhere: 'Even if he were to give her a whip as dowry, she would be made lawful for him.'
