Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us: Abu al-Abbas narrated to us: Yahya ibn Abi Talib narrated to us: Yazid ibn Harun informed us: Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated from Amr ibn Shu'ayb that a man from Banu Mudlij called Qatadah had a mother of a child (umm walad), and he had two sons from her. He married another woman from the Arabs, and she said: I will not be pleased with you until your umm walad serves me. He ordered her to serve, but his two sons refused. Qatadah struck one of his sons with a sword and he died. Suraqah ibn Malik ibn Ju'shum came to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and mentioned this. Umar said to him: Count for me at Qudayd - the land of Banu Mudlij - one hundred and twenty camels. When Umar arrived, he took thirty young she-camels, thirty four-year-olds, and forty pregnant she-camels, then said: Where is the brother of the killed one? I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: The killer gets nothing. These are good mursal (disconnected) narrations that strengthen each other, and they have been narrated with connected chains from several sources.
