Ya'qub told us: my father told us, from Ibn Ishaq: Abu Ubaydah ibn Muhammad ibn Ammar ibn Yasir told me, from Miqsam Abu al-Qasim, the freedman of Abdullah ibn al-Harith ibn Nawfal, who said: I went out, I and Talid ibn Kilab al-Laythi, until we came to Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As while he was circling the House, his sandals hanging from his hand. We said to him: Were you present with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when the man of Tamim spoke to him on the day of Hunayn? He said: Yes. A man from Banu Tamim came forward, called Dhu al-Khuwaysirah, and stood before the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was distributing wealth to the people, and said: O Muhammad, you have seen what you have done today. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Indeed - so how did you see it? He said: I did not see you act justly. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, became angry and said: Woe to you! If justice is not found with me, then with whom will it be found? Umar ibn al-Khattab said: O Messenger of Allah, shall we not kill him? He said: No, leave him, for he will have followers who will delve too deep into religion until they pass clean out of it, just as an arrow passes through the game - the arrowhead is examined and nothing is found on it, then the shaft is examined and nothing is found on it, then the base is examined and nothing is found on it; it had outstripped the dung and the blood. Abu Abd al-Rahman said: This Abu Ubaydah's name is Muhammad, he is trustworthy; his brother Salamah ibn Muhammad ibn Ammar was narrated from only by Ali ibn Zayd, and we do not know his account; and Miqsam is of no harm. This hadith has other chains on this subject, and other chains on this subject that are sound; and Allah, glorified and exalted, knows best.
