حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ حَلَفَ فَاسْتَثْنَى فَإِنْ شَاءَ مَضَى وَإِنْ شَاءَ رَجَعَ غَيْرَ حَنِثٍ.

Abdus-Samad told us, my father told me, Ayyub told us, from Nafi', from Ibn Umar, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever takes an oath and adds an exception, then if he wishes he may proceed, and if he wishes he may go back, without being guilty of breaking his oath.
