Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us: Shayban narrated to us, from Mansur, from Sa'd ibn Ubaydah, who said: I sat, I and Muhammad al-Kindi, with Abdullah ibn Umar, then I got up from him and sat with Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab. Then my companion came, his face having gone pale and his complexion changed, and said: "Get up and come to me." I said: "Was I not just sitting with you a moment ago?" Sa'id said: "Go to your companion." So I got up and went to him, and he said: "Did you not hear what Ibn Umar said?" I said: "What did he say?" He said: A man came to him and said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, is there any blame on me if I swear by the Ka'bah?" He said: "And why would you swear by the Ka'bah? If you swear by the Ka'bah, swear by the Lord of the Ka'bah. Indeed, Umar used to say when he swore, 'No, by my father,' until one day he swore by it in the presence of the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, and the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Do not swear by your father, nor by other than God, for whoever swears by other than God has committed shirk.'"
