Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim told us, my father told us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Imran ibn Abi Anas, brother of Banu Amir ibn Lu'ayy, told me, from Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, from Fatimah bint Qays, sister of al-Dahhak ibn Qays, who said: "I was married to Abu Amr ibn Hafs ibn al-Mughirah, and he had divorced me twice. Then he set out with Ali ibn Abi Talib to Yemen when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent him there, and he sent me my third divorce. And his agent in charge of his affairs in Medina was Ayyash ibn Abi Rabi'ah ibn al-Mughirah." She said: "So I said to him, 'My maintenance and my lodging.' He said, 'You have no maintenance or lodging due from us, except that we might voluntarily extend to you something of our own accord as a favor.'" She said: "So I said, 'If I have no need of my own wealth in it...'" She said: "So I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and informed him of my situation and what Ayyash had said to me, and he said, 'He is right; you have no maintenance or lodging due from them, and he has no right of return over you, and upon you is the waiting period. So move to Umm Sharik, your cousin, and stay with her until you become free.'" She said: "Then he said, 'No - that is a woman visited by her brothers among the Muslims; rather, move to your cousin Ibn Umm Maktum, for he has lost his sight; stay with him. When you become free, do not let yourself pass out of my knowledge.'" She said: "By Allah, I did not think the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, at that time wanted me except for himself." She said: "So when I became free, he proposed to me on behalf of Usamah ibn Zayd, and married me to him." Abu Salamah said: "She dictated this hadith of hers to me and I wrote it with my own hand." Ya'qub told us, my father told me, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Muhammad ibn Muslim al-Zuhri mentioned, from Abu Salamah, from Fatimah bint Qays, the like of that.
