Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us, he said Muhammad ibn Amr told us, from Abu Salamah, from Fatimah bint Qays - he said: I wrote down this hadith from her own mouth - she said: "I was married to a man from Banu Makhzum, and he divorced me irrevocably. So I sent to his family seeking maintenance, and they said, 'You have no maintenance due from us.' So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, 'You have no maintenance due from them, and upon you is the waiting period. Move to Umm Sharik's house, and do not let yourself pass out of my knowledge.' Then he said, 'Umm Sharik is visited by her brothers among the early emigrants; move instead to Ibn Umm Maktum's, for he is a man who has lost his sight, so if you put off some of your clothes, he will not see anything.'" She said: "So when I became free, Mu'awiyah and Abu Jahm ibn Hudhayfah proposed to me, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, 'As for Mu'awiyah, he is destitute with no wealth; and as for Abu Jahm, he is a man who never lays down his stick from his shoulder. What about Usamah ibn Zayd?' - and her family disliked that - so she said, 'I will marry none but the one to whom the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, called me.' So she married him."
