حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ شَبِيبًا أَبَا رَوْحٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ صَلَّى الصُّبْحَ فَقَرَأَ فِيهَا بِالرُّومِ فَأَوْهَمَ فِيهَا فَقَالَ وَمَا يَمْنَعُنِي قَالَ شُعْبَةُ فَذَكَرَ الرُّقَعَ وَمَعْنَى قَوْلِهِ إِنَّكُمْ لَسْتُمْ بِمُتَنَظِّفِينَ حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ عَاصِمُ بْنُ كُلَيْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عِيَاضَ بْنَ مَرْثَدٍ أَوْ مَرْثَدَ بْنَ عِيَاضٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ عَمَلٍ يُدْخِلُهُ الْجَنَّةَ فَذَكَرَهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ تَكْفِيهِمْ آلَتَهُمْ إِذَا حَضَرُوهُ وَتَحْمِلُهُ إِلَيْهِمْ إِذَا غَابُوا عَنْهُ.

Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: Shu'ba told us, from Abd al-Malik ibn Umayr, who said: I heard Shabib Abu Rawh narrating from a man among the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he prayed the dawn prayer and recited in it Surat ar-Rum, and he became confused in it, and said: "What prevents me..." - Shu'ba said: he mentioned the patches [of confusion caused by scribal notes] and the meaning of his saying: "You are not sufficiently attentive to cleanliness." Affan told us: Shu'ba told us: Asim ibn Kulayb informed me: I heard Iyad ibn Marthad or Marthad ibn Iyad, from a man of theirs, that he asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about a deed that would admit him to Paradise, and he mentioned it, except that he said: "their equipment suffices them when they are present, and you carry it to them when they are absent."
