Abd al-Razzaq told us, Ma'mar told us, from Ayyub, from Humayd ibn Hilal al-Adawi, from Abu Burdah, who said: Mu'adh ibn Jabal came to Abu Musa in Yemen, and there was a man with him. He said: What is this? He said: A man who had been a Jew, then became a Muslim, then reverted to Judaism, and we have been wanting him to return to Islam for — he said, I think — two months. He said: By Allah, I will not sit until you strike off his neck — so his neck was struck off. He said: Allah and His Messenger have decreed that whoever reverts from his religion, kill him — or he said: whoever changes his religion, kill him.
