Bahz b. Asad told us, Hammad b. Salamah told us, from 'Abd al-Malik b. 'Umayr, from Rifa'ah b. Shaddad, who said: I used to stand at the head of al-Mukhtar, and when I recognized his lies, I resolved — by Allah! — to draw my sword and strike off his neck, until I remembered a hadith that 'Amr b. al-Hamiq had related to me: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "Whoever grants a man safety over his life and then kills him will be given the banner of treachery on the Day of Resurrection."
