Yazid ibn Harun told us: Abu Mas'ud al-Jurayri told us, from Abu Nadrah, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, from Zayd ibn Thabit, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in one of the walled gardens of Madinah, in which there were graves, and he was on his mule. It swerved with him and nearly threw him off. He said: 'Who knows the people of these graves?' A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, a people who died in the Jahiliyyah.' He said: 'Were it not that you would stop burying your dead, I would have asked Allah, Mighty and Majestic, to let you hear the punishment of the grave.' Then he said to us: 'Seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of Hell.' We said: 'We seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of Hell.' Then he said: 'Seek refuge in Allah from the trial of the Messiah al-Dajjal.' We said: 'We seek refuge in Allah from the trial of the Messiah al-Dajjal.' Then he said: 'Seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the grave.' We said: 'We seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the grave.' Then he said: 'Seek refuge in Allah from the trial of life and death.' We said: 'We seek refuge in Allah from the trial of life and death.'
