Ammar ibn Muhammad, son of the sister of Sufyan al-Thawri, from Layth ibn Abi Sulaym, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Ghanm, from Abu Dharr, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: "O My servants, all of you are sinners except those whom I have spared, so seek My forgiveness and I will forgive you. Whoever knows that I am able to forgive and seeks My forgiveness by My power, I forgive him and do not mind. All of you are astray except those whom I have guided, so seek My guidance and I will guide you. All of you are poor except those whom I have enriched, so ask Me and I will enrich you. If the first of you and the last of you, the living among you and the dead, the moist among you and the dry, were to gather together upon the most wretched heart among the hearts of My servants, it would not decrease My dominion by a mosquito's wing; and if they were to gather together upon the most pious heart of a servant among My servants, it would not increase My dominion by a mosquito's wing. And if the first of you and the last of you, the living among you and the dead, the moist among you and the dry, were to gather together and every asker among them were to ask Me for the utmost of his wish, and I gave every asker among them what he asked, that would not diminish what I have any more than if one of you were to pass by the edge of the sea and dip a needle into it and then pull it out - that is how little it would diminish My dominion - because I am Generous, Glorious, Self-Sufficient; My giving is a word and My punishment is a word. When I want a thing, I only say to it 'Be,' and it is." Hashim ibn al-Qasim told us: Abd al-Hamid told us: Shahr told us: Ibn Ghanm told me that Abu Dharr told him, from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: 'O My servant, so long as you worship Me and hope in Me, I will forgive you for whatever was in you. And O My servant, if you meet Me with sins equal to the fill of the earth, so long as you have not associated anything with Me, I will meet you with forgiveness equal to it.'" And Abu Dharr said: Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: "O My servants, all of you are sinners except those whom I have spared" - and he mentioned something similar, except that he said: "that is because I am Generous, Bountiful, Glorious; My giving is only a word."
