حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ قَالَ ثَنَا سَيَّارٌ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ فَقَالَ فَلَقَّنِّي فَقَالَ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ وَالنُّصْحَ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ.

Hushaym told us: Sayyar told us, from al-Sha'bi, from Jarir, who said: I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, upon listening and obeying. He said: "Say it after me" - he said - "as much as you are able, and sincere counsel to every Muslim."
