Yahya ibn Sa'id told us, Hisham told us, Qatadah told us, from Mutarrif, from Iyad ibn Himar, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, delivered a sermon one day and said in his sermon: My Lord, Mighty and Majestic, has commanded me to teach you what you do not know of what He has taught me this day of mine: Every wealth that I have bestowed on My servants is lawful, and I created all My servants upright by nature, but the devils came to them and led them astray from their religion, and forbade them what I had made lawful for them, and commanded them to associate with Me that for which I sent down no authority. Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, looked upon the people of the earth and detested them, Arab and non-Arab alike, except remnants of the People of the Book, and He said: I only sent you to test you and to test others through you, and I sent down to you a Book that water cannot wash away, which you recite sleeping and waking. Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, commanded me to burn Quraysh, and I said: O Lord, then they will smash my head and leave it like a loaf of bread. He said: Expel them as they expelled you, fight them and We will aid you against them; spend on them and We will spend on you; send an army and We will send five like it; and fight, with those who obey you, those who disobey you. The people of Paradise are three: one who holds authority, just, charitable, and successful; a man merciful and tender-hearted toward every relative and every Muslim; and a poor man, chaste, who gives charity. And the people of the Fire are five: the weak one who has no restraint, those who are followers among you, seeking neither family nor wealth, who neither morning nor evening seek anything but their own benefit; the treacherous one whose greed is never hidden from him, however small, but he betrays it; and a man who, morning and evening, deceives you regarding your family and your wealth — and he mentioned miserliness, lying, and foul obscenity. Yahya ibn Sa'id told us, Shu'bah told us, from Qatadah, who said: I heard Mutarrif narrate this hadith — and Affan said, in the hadith of Hammam: 'and the foul one is the obscene one' — he said: and he mentioned lying or miserliness.
