قَالَ أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِذَا أَتَاهُ الْإِنْسَانُ يَقُولُ كَيْفَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَقُولُ حِينَ أَسْأَلُ رَبِّي قَالَ قُلْ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَاهْدِنِي وَارْزُقْنِي وَقَبَضَ أَصَابِعَهُ الْأَرْبَعَ إِلَّا الْإِبْهَامَ فَإِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ يَجْمَعْنَ لَكَ دُنْيَاكَ وَآخِرَتَكَ.

My father said: Yazid narrated to us: Abu Malik al-Ashja'i informed us, he said: My father narrated to me, that he heard the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, say - when a person came to him saying: How should I say, O Messenger of God, when I ask my Lord? - He said: Say: O God, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, and provide for me - folding in his four fingers, except the thumb - for these gather for you your worldly life and your afterlife.
