Abdullah told us: I found this hadith in my father's book in his own handwriting, and I also heard it in another place: Abu al-Yaman told us, Shu'ayb informed me, from al-Zuhri: Sinan ibn Abi Sinan al-Du'ali and Abu Salamah ibn Abd al-Rahman told me: that Jabir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari, who was one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, informed them that he went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, towards Najd. When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, returned, he returned with them. Midday rest overtook them one day in a valley full of thorny acacia trees, so the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, dismounted, and the people scattered among the acacia trees seeking shade under the trees. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, dismounted to take shade under a tree, and he hung his sword on it. Jabir said: We took a nap there; then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, called us, and we came to him, and there was a bedouin sitting with him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "This man drew his sword against me while I was asleep. I woke up to find it unsheathed in his hand, and he said, 'Who will protect you from me?' I said, 'Allah.' He said, 'Who will protect you from me?' I said, 'Allah.'" So he sheathed the sword and sat down, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did not punish him, even though he had done that.
