Mus'ab ibn Sallam told us, Ja'far told us, from his father, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, delivered a sermon to us, praising Allah and extolling Him as He deserves, then said: "To proceed: the most truthful speech is the Book of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad, and the worst of matters are those newly invented, and every innovation is misguidance." Then he would raise his voice, and his cheeks would redden, and his anger would intensify when he mentioned the Hour, as though he were warning of an approaching army, saying: "The Hour has come to you! I have been sent, and the Hour, like this" — and he gestured with his two fingers, the index and middle — "the Hour has come upon you in the morning and evening. Whoever leaves behind wealth, it is for his family; and whoever leaves behind debt or needy dependents, it falls to me and upon me" — by needy dependents he meant his orphaned children.
