Al-Husayn ibn Ishaq al-Tustari narrated to us, from Asim ibn al-Nadr, from Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman who said: I heard my father narrating from Hanash, from Ata', from Ibn Umar, from Ibn Mas'ud that he was in a garden in Madinah teaching his two sons. Two birds - crows or pigeons - passed by with a fluttering sound. Ibn Mas'ud looked at them and said: 'By Allah, I am no more sorrowful over these two (sons) if they were to die than my sorrow over these two birds if they fell dead. I feel for them what a parent feels for his children, but I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: The Hour will not come until every tribe is led by its hypocrites. That is why I wish we would die before that time.'
