Muhammad ibn Ali al-Sa'igh informed us, from Sa'id ibn Mansur, from Hushaym, from Abu Janab al-Kalbi, from Bukayr ibn al-Akhnas, from his father who said: We differed regarding the recitation of this letter: {And He knows what you do} - whether it is 'taf'alun' (you do) or 'yaf'alun' (they do). So I went to Ibn Mas'ud to ask him about it. While I was with him, someone came and said: 'O Abu Abd al-Rahman, a man committed an indecency with his wife, then they both repented and reformed.' So Abdullah recited this verse: {And He is the One who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons misdeeds, and He knows what you do} [42:25].
