Al-Hasan narrated that Uthman ibn Abi al-As married a woman from among Umar ibn al-Khattab's women and said: 'By Allah, I did not marry her out of desire for wealth or children, but I wanted her to tell me about Umar's night routine.' He asked her: 'How was Umar's night prayer?' She said: 'He would pray the Isha prayer, then order us to place a basin of water by his head and cover it. He would wake up during the night, place his hand in the water, wipe his face and hands, then remember Allah as long as He wished. He would wake up repeatedly until the hour came for him to stand for his prayer.' Ibn Burayda said: 'Who narrated this to you?' He said: 'The daughter of Uthman ibn Abi al-As narrated it to me.' He said: 'A trustworthy woman, by Allah.'
