Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A Bedouin from Banu Sa'd ibn Bakr came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said: "Peace be upon you, O boy of Banu 'Abd al-Muttalib." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "And upon you be peace." He said: "I am a man from your maternal uncles, from Banu Sa'd ibn Bakr. I am the messenger of my people to you and their delegate. I will question you, and my questioning will be pressing, and I will adjure you, and my adjuration will be pressing." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Go ahead, O brother of Banu Sa'd." He said: "Who created you and who created those before you and who will create those after you?" He said: "Allah." He said: "I adjure you by that - did He send you?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Tell me, who created the seven heavens and the seven earths and set provision between them?" He said: "Allah." He said: "I adjure you by that - did He send you?" He said: "Yes." He said: "We have found in your book and your messengers commanded us to pray five prayers during the day and night at their appointed times. I adjure you by that - did He command you?" He said: "Yes." He said: "We found in your book and your messengers commanded us to fast the month of Ramadan. I adjure you by that - did He command you?" He said: "Yes." He said: "We found in your book and your messengers commanded us that you take from the edges of our wealth and distribute it among our poor. I adjure you by that - did He command you?" He said: "Yes." He said: "As for the fifth, I will not ask about it and have no desire for it" - meaning the prohibitions. Then he said: "By the One who sent you with the truth, I will act upon this, as will those of my people who obey me." Then he returned. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) smiled until his back teeth showed, then said: "If he is truthful, he will certainly enter Paradise."
