Abu Umamah said: Ibn Umm Maktum, who was blind - and he is the one about whom was revealed 'He frowned and turned away, because the blind man came to him' - and he was a man from Quraysh, came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, by my father and mother, I am as you see me - my age has advanced, my bones have become thin, and my sight is gone. I have a guide who does not suit me well in guiding me. Can you find any concession for me to pray in my house?" The Messenger of Allah said: "Can you hear the mu'adhin from the house you are in?" He said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah said: "I do not find any concession for you. And if this one who stays behind from the congregational prayer knew what reward awaits the one who walks to it, he would come to it even if he had to crawl on his hands and knees."
