Abu Umamah reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood among the people and said, 'Indeed Allah has prescribed Hajj upon you.' A Bedouin man stood and said, 'Every year?' The speech of the Messenger of Allah stopped, and he became angry and remained silent for a long time. Then he spoke and said, 'Who is the questioner?' The Bedouin said, 'It is I, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Woe to you! What assurance do you have that I might say yes? By Allah, if I had said yes, it would have become obligatory, and if it had become obligatory, you would have abandoned it, and if you had abandoned it, you would have disbelieved. It was only the leaders of difficulty who destroyed those before you. By Allah, if I made permissible for you everything on earth and forbade upon you the equivalent of a camel's hoof, you would fall into it.' Then Allah revealed: {Do not ask about things...} the verse.
