The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "O Salman, do you know what the day of Jumu'ah (Friday) is?" I said: "It is the day on which your father — or your forefather — was gathered (created)." He said: "No, but I shall tell you about the day of Jumu'ah: No Muslim purifies himself, wears his best clothes, applies perfume from his household if they have it — otherwise water suffices — then comes to the mosque, listens quietly until the imam comes out, and then prays, except that it will be an expiation for him between that Friday and the next, as long as major sins are avoided. And that applies for all time."
