Zayd ibn Thabit narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) made an enclosure with reed mats in the mosque. He would pray in it at night. People gathered around him, and then one night they did not hear his voice and thought he had fallen asleep. Some of them cleared their throats to get his attention. He said: "O people, you kept doing what I saw you doing until I feared it would be made obligatory upon you. Pray, O people, in your houses, for the best prayer of a person is in his house, except the obligatory prayer."
