Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani said: A man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about found items. He said: "Keep it for a year, then learn its container and its string and its pouch; then if someone comes describing it correctly, give it to him. Otherwise, use it." He asked: "O Messenger of Allah, what about a lost sheep?" He said: "It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf." He asked: "What about a lost camel?" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) became angry until his cheeks turned red, and he said: "What do you have to do with it? It has its feet and its water container — it reaches water and eats from trees until its owner finds it."
