Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:4380 حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَبَايَةَ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ رَافِعٍ عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِذِي الْخَلِيفَةِ مِنْ تِهَامَةَ فَأَصَابَ الْقَوْمُ إِبِلًا وَغَنَمًا فَعَجِلُوا فَأَغْلَوْا بِهِ الْقُدُورَ فَانْتَهَى إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَمَرَ بِالْقُدُورِ فَكُفِئَتْ فَعَدَلَ عَشَرَةً مِنَ الْغَنَمِ بِجَزُورٍ قَالَ وَنَدَّ مِنْهَا بَعِيرٌ فَرَمَاهُ رَجُلٌ بِسَهْمٍ فَحَبَسَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ لِهَذِهِ الْبَهَائِمِ أَوَابِدَ كَأَوَابِدِ الْوَحْشِ فَمَا غَلَبَكُمْ مِنْهَا فَاصْنَعُوا بِهِ هَكَذَا» ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ رَافِعُ بْنُ خَدِيجٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا نَخَافُ أَوْ نَرْجُو أَنْ نَلْقَى الْعَدُوَّ وَلَيْسَ مَعَنَا مُدًى أَفَنَذْبَحُ بِالْقَصَبِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَذُكِرَ عَلَيْهِ اسْمُ اللهِ فَكُلُوا لَيْسَ السِّنَّ وَالظُّفُرَ وَسَأُحَدِّثُكُمْ عَنْ ذَلِكَ أَمَّا السِّنُّ فَعَظْمٌ وَأَمَّا الظُّفُرُ فَمُدَى الْحَبَشِ قَالَ رَافِعٌ ثُمَّ إِنَّ نَاضِحًا تَرَدَّى فِي بِئْرٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فَذُكِّيَ مِنْ قِبَلِ شَاكِتَلِهِ يَعْنِي خَاصِرَتَهُ فَأَخَذَ مِنْهُ عُمَرُ عَشِيرًا بِدِرْهَمٍ

Rafi' ibn Khadij said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) at Dhi al-Khalifah in Tihamah when the people obtained camels and sheep. They hurried and set the pots boiling. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came and ordered the pots overturned. He equalized ten sheep for one camel. A camel ran away, and a man shot it with an arrow and stopped it. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed these beasts have wild characteristics like those of wild animals. Whatever escapes from you, do the same to it." Then Rafi' ibn Khadij came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, we fear — or hope — to meet the enemy, and we have no knives. Shall we slaughter with reeds?" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Whatever causes the blood to flow and over which Allah's Name is mentioned — eat from it, except the tooth and the nail. I will tell you about that: the tooth is a bone, and the nail is the knife of the Abyssinians." Rafi' said: Then a water-drawing camel fell into a well in Madinah, and it was slaughtered from its flank — meaning its side — and 'Umar purchased a portion of it for a dirham.
