Khalid ibn al-Walid, who is called the Sword of Allah, reported that he entered with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) upon Maymunah, the wife of the Prophet - she was his aunt and the aunt of Ibn Abbas - and found with her a roasted lizard that her sister Hufaydah bint al-Harith had brought from Najd. She presented the lizard to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and he rarely put his hand to food until he was told about it and it was named for him. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) reached his hand toward the lizard. A woman among the women present said: Tell the Messenger of Allah what you have presented to him. They said: It is a lizard, O Messenger of Allah. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) raised his hand. Khalid ibn al-Walid said: Do you forbid the lizard, O Messenger of Allah? He said: "No, but it is not found in the land of my people, so I find myself averse to it." Khalid said: I pulled it toward me and ate it while the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was watching, and he did not prohibit me.
