Anas narrated about seventy men from the Ansar who, when night fell, would go to a teacher in Madinah and spend the night studying the Quran. In the morning, those who had strength would gather firewood and fetch fresh water, and those with means would get a sheep and prepare it, hanging it at the Messenger of Allah's (peace be upon him) chamber. When Khubayb was killed, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sent them, and among them was my uncle Haram. They came to a tribe of Banu Sulaym. Haram said to their leader: 'Shall I inform these people that we do not intend them, so they let us pass?' He went to them and told them, but a man met him with a spear and pierced him through. When Haram felt the spear in his body, he said: 'Allahu Akbar! I have won, by the Lord of the Ka'bah!' They delayed, and none of them survived to bring news. I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) grieve over any expedition as he grieved over them. Anas said: 'I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) every morning after the Fajr prayer raising his hands supplicating against them.' Later, Abu Talhah came and said to me: 'Would you like to know about the killer of Haram?' I said: 'What about him? May Allah do to him such-and-such.' Abu Talhah said: 'Do not say that, for he has accepted Islam.'
