Ibn Abbas said: "I passed by the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) wearing white garments while he was conversing with Dihyah ibn Khalifah al-Kalbi — who was actually Jibril (peace be upon him), though I did not know. I did not greet them. Jibril said: 'O Muhammad, who is this?' He said: 'This is my cousin, Ibn Abbas.' He said: 'How bright his garments are! His descendants will hold authority after him. Had he greeted us, we would have returned his greeting.' When I came back, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'O Ibn Abbas, what prevented you from greeting?' I said: 'May my parents be your ransom, I saw you conversing with Dihyah ibn Khalifah and I did not want to interrupt your conversation.' He said: 'Did you see him?' I said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Your eyesight will go, but it will be restored to you at your death.' 'Ikrimah said: 'When Ibn Abbas died and was placed on his bier, a brilliantly radiant bird came and entered his shroud. They wanted to open the shroud, but 'Ikrimah said: What are you doing? This is the glad tiding of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that he told him about. When he was placed in his grave, a voice was heard by those at the edge of his grave: {O reassured soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing to Him, enter among My servants and enter My Paradise.}'"
